A Letter from the Founder
Hi!
I’m Danika, the founder of Colucci Co. I started this company out of my love for all things small business operations and strategy.
Honestly though, this wasn’t always my plan.
Growing up, all I wanted was to work for big companies. My vision was to climb the corporate ladder until I was at the top.
With that goal in mind, I pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Retail Merchandising and Product Development, and went on to receive my Master’s in Global Merchandising.
After college, I landed my dream job (at the time) working as a buyer for a multi-billion dollar global retailer in New York City.
This job was the first sign that signaled to me that maybe this corporate ladder thing wasn’t everything it seemed. The fashion industry in NYC was intense to say the least. I was working long hours, 6 days a week, alongside some “strong personalities.” I was burnt-out, depressed, anxious, and homesick. I knew something had to give.
I searched “what to do when you hate your job” on Youtube and found a life coach who ended up changing my life (more on that later). She hired me to be her virtual assistant. Although I had no idea where this side hustle would take me, I said yes. The thing about side hustles is, you still need to have a full-time job!
Over the next several years, I searched for a career path that I could feel excited about. I tried several things from social media marketing to teaching meditation. Eventually, I landed on Human Resources and during this time, I received a certificate in Human Resources Management and also my SHRM-SP certification (a well-known HR certification).
I enjoyed Human Resources but I grew frustrated at the fact that no matter how hard I worked, some years I didn’t even get a “cost of living” raise (while the cost of living in NYC was always rising) and I had very little autonomy.
I wanted the freedom and flexibility to make my own schedule and live life on my own terms.
This brings me back to that side hustle. I worked it alongside each full-time role I had and loved every minute of it. I was so passionate about my role and helping my client succeed. Something I never felt at my full-time jobs. Together, over the next several years, we ended up growing that business from scratch to multiple six-figures in annual revenue. As the company grew, so did my role, responsibility, and knowledge of small business management. I learned how to do everything from grow an email list to landing interviews on top industry podcasts to building successful online courses that reach a global audience, and everything in between.
Eventually, I was able to leave my job in Human Resources because my client was able to pay me a monthly retainer equivalent to a full-time income to run her business operations and strategy.
I started Colucci Co. because I want to share everything I’ve learned about starting and running an online business with the hope that you too, can grow a profitable company and find the freedom and joy that you seek.
